![]() ![]() *shrugs* I just couldn’t connect as well with the story. The thing that always seemed to bug me was the lack of color. ![]() I just never got into the experience of it like I did with graphic novels. But, I have to mention, I’m not a huge manga nut. I am a huge fan of a retelling done right in this format. I mean, let’s be honest, I love my graphic novel retellings of classics/YA/whatever. So when I started Pride and Prejudice, I was a bit taken aback by how I reacted. But seriously though, there is usually two that I am starting while I take breathers from my books on certain days (its a system, okay?) I usually read several graphic novels at once *hides in fear of judgement*. I remember being somewhat shocked that a classic won! I vowed to read some of the books that made the list (and won said categories) and I’m happy to say that I am really glad I made that decision. I remember voting on the Goodread’s Choices Awards last year for the Best Graphic Novel/Manga category. I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. Review originally posted on my blog (with graphics) Diamond’s Reads ![]()

![]() ![]() Old and new betrayals are coming home to roost but the truth - buried in blood - is more poisonous than the lies being spun. Bound by promises they can’t break, Patrick and Jono must find a way to survive a threat that takes no prisoners and is stalking them relentlessly through the city streets. Learning to trust each other comes with problems for both of them, and the gods with a stake in Patrick’s soul debt aren’t finished with him yet. When the dead are revealed as missing werecreatures, Patrick and Jono find themselves entangled in pack politics twisted by vampire machinations. Manhattan’s club scene is overrun with the vampire drug known as shine and the subways have become a dumping ground for bodies. But the delicate treaties that have kept the preternatural world in check are fraying at the edges, and the fallout is spilling into the mundane world. Navigating his new relationship with Jonothon de Vere, the werewolf he’s now soulbound to, is nothing compared to dealing with territorial disputes between the vampires and werecreatures who call the five boroughs home. Special agent Patrick Collins has been reassigned by the supernatural operations agency to New York City. ![]() ![]() You can’t bargain with death if you’ve already sold your soul. ![]() ![]() ![]() To the point that when Rez gets into the swing of things, I could not stop listening. ![]() Everything is perfectly timed and perfectly played, and if it weren’t the most satisfying thing I’ve listened too in a long time, then the whole book would have been just ten shades of ‘meh’. He isn’t a good guy, and he doesn’t spare a second thought for going all Liam Neeson with his particular set of skills to methodically and logically slice up anyone that stands in his path. ![]() Again, this would usually put me off the character, but Rez doesn’t hold back… like, at all. The main character, Rezkin, is OP as all hell, brilliant at just about everything he turns his hands to. For starters, the characters seemed hollow or so clichéd that I quickly began losing faith. There was something about this book that I didn’t want to like, and for the life of me I can’t put my finger on it. Still, I carried on with Free the Darkness, and oooo boy, was that the right choice. I want surprise from the books I listen to, but after a couple hundred fantasy novels, you think you’ve seen it all. A few premises were laid out and thing proceeded just as I expected. Initially the story seemed very predictable. Free the Darkness was another book I had no idea about save for the sky-high Audible rating, and 30 minutes in I thought I’d picked a dud. ![]() ![]() ![]() She was intolerant of the behaviour of a victim and appeared to have no understanding of the effect of abuse when the victim was grown. For someone who was seemingly a prosecuting Attourney and whose downfall was a child abuse case, she appeared to overlook events in her own life, pretending outwardly nothing happened. I could not understand the weakness of the lead character. ![]() ![]() Found it easy to distinguish between characters.Ĭould you see Cry Wolf being made into a movie or a TV series? Who would the stars be? What about Joyce Bean’s performance did you like? Can't say I am often surprised at the outcome, but I still enjoy this type of book, not ,ucl thinking involved and great to have on whilst I do chores, cooking etc. Personally I prefer the more crime based books albeit there is always some romantic elements. More of a romance novel with family dynamics and southern 'manners' featuring heavily. Whilst I have not checked, I would imagine this is fairly early in Ms Hoag's foray into crime. If you’ve listened to books by Tami Hoag before, how does this one compare? Bit too much romance for me and I would not have missed several hours being cut out. Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?ĭespite the jaw dropping attitude to child abuse by the lead character I stuck with it and generally enjoyed the story. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Urn:lcp:wandloreguidefor0000theo:epub:17269bce-dae3-4fee-a0ff-9587ba457f3e Foldoutcount 0 Identifier wandloreguidefor0000theo Identifier-ark ark:/13960/t7tn9rf3h Invoice 1652 Isbn 9780993328404Ġ993328407 Ocr tesseract 5.0.0-beta-20210815 Ocr_detected_lang en Ocr_detected_lang_conf 1.0000 Ocr_detected_script Latin Ocr_detected_script_conf 0.9643 Ocr_module_version 0.0.13 Ocr_parameters -l eng Old_pallet IA-WL-1200056 Openlibrary_edition Access-restricted-item true Addeddate 13:12:20 Bookplateleaf 0004 Boxid IA40250024 Camera Sony Alpha-A6300 (Control) Collection_set printdisabled External-identifier ![]() ![]() ![]() Ozeki's novel is written in the first-person perspective of a troubled teenaged Japanese girl and in the third-person perspective of an almost equally troubled author who finds the girl's diary washed up on shore.
